Fashion Week used to be a highly exclusive event, giving access only to top fashion industry professionals and editors. Now, with the advancement of technology, designers must learn to embrace the fact that their runway shows will be seen by millions the moment the lights turn on. Mobile apps have become a key mode of providing access to all those who normally wouldn’t be able to see the new looks until they hit stores. Mercedes-Benz, the official sponsor in New York, has teamed up with companies each season to help promote Fashion Week in the major cities. I’ve rounded up a handful of apps I enjoy and think you should download for this upcoming season.
Style.com – Style.com’s site is the go-to source for up-to-date photos and information from the runways. Now you can carry that instant access on your phone with this mobile-friendly version. I know this app is helpful for many bloggers who are often posting their reviews of the shows immediately following.
W Front Row – Get the inside scoop from W editors about their favorite places to eat and events going on in the city. If you’re new to the city, this app will be a fun way to explore the area and get recommendations from fashion insiders. This is the app for those looking for a fun experience at NYFW that’s not necessarily PR-focused.
MADE Fashion Week – Exclusive to shows at Milk Studios, this iPhone app picks up on the sounds played during runway shows and will display the outfits walking down the runway. You could also try the app live streaming since it just needs the sound rather than location. It is quite an impressive technological advancement in the fashion world but it had a few kinks when it launched last season in February. I would definitely try this app this coming season as it will help you get exclusive content and details perhaps not mentioned on your handout about the looks.
Fashion GPS Radar – For those who have been attending shows for several seasons, Fashion GPS can be your best friend. It manages all your RSVPs to events (listed on the site) in one convenient site and allows you to connect with PR houses. The downside is there are often technical difficulties with the app (too many people trying to log on) and if a show isn’t listed with Fashion GPS, then you won’t be able to add it to your calendar. However, it still remains one of the most important apps for any fashionista with a busy fashi0n week schedule.
Use these apps and your Fashion Week is guaranteed to be #totesamaze!
